Who We Are
The Town Creek Master Water Management District of Lee, Pontotoc, Prentiss and Union Counties was created by Decree of the Lee County, Mississippi Chancery Court in 1961. The enabling legislation supporting the District was adopted by the Mississippi Legislature on May 10, 1960. This legislation was comprehensive in nature in that it defined or redefined master water management districts, drainage districts and other types of water management districts for the State of Mississippi. This was done in response to the creation of the Watershed Program enacted by the United States Congress in PL-566.
The District’s total area is 246,957 acres or 385.9 square miles, making it the second largest PL-566 District in the United States. In its current workplan, the District has approved 25 damsites: of those 25, 24 have been completed and one remains to be constructed.
